Nearly 1 million people in Mexico state (Edomex) do not have access to potable water due to insufficient infrastructure, the state’s water and public works department [Secretaria del Agua y Obra Pública] head David Korenfeld [said].
[...] Korenfeld said the lack of potable water is caused by the overuse of groundwater sources due to uncontrolled urban growth and cracks in the distribution grids, among other problems. [The affected] municipalities also lack the infrastructure required to receive water from the Cutzamala system, which supplies 20% of the water consumed in the Mexico valley metropolitan area.
